The city of Lyon and Grand Lyon have selected the team of Bouygues Immobilier and Kengo Kuma and Associates for the urban renewal project on the site: ILOT-P within a masterplan.

HIKARI is a project that takes a part of the urban plan launched by the city of Lyon and Grand Lyon. The area for the urban plan is situated at the confluence of the two rivers in the south of the centre of Lyon. For a long time this area was developed for transport and industry. The aim of the urban plan is to renew and revitalized as the base of pleasant “urban living” and to enlarge the central active area of the city. The site for the competition; ILOT-P is the first project to be realized within the masterplan designed by Herzog & de Meuron and requires the use of residential, commercial and offices.

Our proposal, HIKARI, suggests friendly building for the environment and for human life. 3 independent volumes, MINAMI: residential, NISHI: complex of residential and offices, HIGASHI: office, are to receive appropriate light for their own purpose by curving the volumes.

HIKARI has attracted the attention of the jury by elegance, movement, lightness and strength. It will be the first project in Lyon which produces more energy than it consumes thanks to photovoltaic (rooftop and façade facing south) and the central cogeneration based on rapeseed oil. (Consumption will be 50-60 % lower than the standard thermal regulations)
