The solo speakers for this symposium are Kengo Kuma, architect and Chair of more trees, and Masaya Nakagawa, founder of a forestry venture based in Tanabe City that has attracted nationwide attention. What these two speakers share is a thoughtful attentiveness to what may at first appear small, modest, or easily overlooked. By moving beyond conventional frameworks, each has forged new paths in their respective fields. At a time when society faces major challenges such as climate change and population decline, what can we learn from “small things,” and how might they help us envision the future? Through the perspectives of two leaders working at the forefront of forests and architecture, this symposium seeks insights into a new kind of society. Join us for a day that connects cities and forests and expands the circle of forest stewardship. We warmly invite you to take part in this conversation.
