“Cinema Neko” is a small, independent cinema housed in a roughly 90-year-old, single-story wooden building in Ome, Tokyo.
Originally built in the early Showa period as a textile testing facility, the Western-style building was renovated and reopened as a cinema in 2021. It features a charming, pastel-colored exterior in pale blue and white, as well as an interior with exposed wooden roof trusses that have been intentionally left visible.
A director’s talk is also scheduled following the 2:55 p.m. screening on Sunday, September 20.
Come and enjoy this documentary film about architect Kengo Kuma in a theater where you can experience the warmth of wood and a sense of openness, and which is registered as a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
Nationwide release to follow.
Screening schedules vary by venue. For the latest screening information, please refer to the film’s official website.
