CMP Liuyuan Church
Part of a new urban development that also includes CMP gallery, this Church rises from a narrow site enclosed by towering buildings. In response to the site’s tight constraints, the architecture grows vertically, evoking the gesture of praying hands to create a sacred and uplifting space for worship.
From the skylight at the top natural light filters into the main hall, suspended at the center of the building, and reaches the lower-level trough the voids hosting the circulation spaces at the hall’s sides.
The Church is rhythmically shaped by a sequence of structural slender wooden frames, each uniquely angled in a subtle gradient, creating a quiet sense of movement. The structure not only defines the architectural form but porously divides and organizes all the functions (Main Hall, Chapel, Office, Circulation space).
Large windows positioned at eye level frame views of the landscape and widen the perception of the interior space while preserving privacy and avoiding views of the surrounding buildings.
Inside the main hall, warm textures and glimpses of nature create a serene setting for prayer. With light gently falling from above, the space becomes a quiet retreat― simple, solemn, and still ―amid the city’s restless pace.
