Art Aquarium Ginza “Goldfish Stone Garden” Sekitei-rium
This installation expresses the flow of life by fusing Japan’s traditional goldfish-viewing culture with contemporary materials, creating a transparent and dynamic spatial experience.
By combining bamboo and acrylic—two contrasting materials—the design features a delicate, lightweight central spiral structure surrounded by three smaller spirals.
Utilizing flat bamboo and transparent acrylic panels coated with polarizing film, the space reveals ever-changing expressions depending on light and viewpoint angle, generating a sense of fluidity and rhythm that resonates with the graceful movements of the goldfish.
Built upon Japan’s long and intimate relationship with goldfish, the work proposes a new mode of appreciation grounded in materiality and technology.
