Hirosawa Museam of Shogi
Opposite the Hirosawa Museum of Art (2020), a single-story wooden structure was added to create a communication village that serves as a hub for community exchange.
One of the buildings opened ahead of the others as the Hirosawa Museam of Shogi*, exhibiting shogi pieces crafted by amateur shogi player Kazunori Kanda from approximately 1,500 varieties of materials sourced both domestically and internationally.
The volumes are staggered in a rhythmic formation to embrace the central plaza, while the wooden roof joists extend diagonally toward the open space, forming a dynamic structural composition.
By arranging the wooden joists in resistance to the planar XY-axe that govern spatial order, the roof is released from the constraints of the space below, giving rise to a light, liberated wooden architecture.
