My focus when designing this art museum was to create quiet space in the middle of a metropolis that is soothing and inviting. Vertical louvers made from white ceramic panels cover the façade, a design feature that controls the light while connecting the art museum to the garden outside.
Movable screens with a sliding mechanism are provided inside the façade as a detail that allows the amount of light to be adjusted depending upon the display method chosen. This detail was inspired by an old-fashioned lattice window design called “Musougoshi” used in Japanese houses in an age when glass was not available.
