Korea 2023Whitestone Gallery Seoul
A commercial building facing the verdant Namsan Mountain Park in the center of Seoul has been renovated into an art gallery. The building’s existing skip-floor configuration was used to develop a variety of spatially diverse galleries. By colliding the abstraction of the white cube and the complexity of the existing building, a dynamic art space has been created. Its architectural presence has been erased by blackening the existing façade and reflecting the trees and sky on the glass surface. At this threshold condition, you can experience a space that transitions visitors from ordinary daily life in the city to the abstract sublime of a white, abstract art space. On the roof, a new sculpture garden creates a stage in the sky to connect the city of Seoul, art, and Namsan Mountain.
