Japan 2011Kyoto Kokusai Hotel [Steak House Omi]

Kyoto
Interior | Commercial | Hospitality
Completed

We renovated Steak House Omi which is located on the 1st floor of the Kyoto Kokusai Hotel in front of Nijo Castle in Kyoto which was designed by the architect Junzo Yoshimura (1908 – 1997).

In order to create a suitable ambiance for the restaurant of being an “Annex” in the garden, we inserted alley-shaped exterior space to separate it from the hotel. It contains a collaboration of traditional and new technologies, including a Sumushiko screen made by bamboo craftsmen in Kyoto, a brass range hood with a unique color pattern created with a special oxidant, and a light wall made with Tyvec. This enables people to re-experience the modernism and encounter with Japanese culture envisioned by Junzo Yoshimura.
