Shiba International School New Campus Façade Design
With the campus located on the main avenue, we aimed to connect this urban campus to the city with a large canopy, opening it up to its surroundings. Spreading out radially to embrace all visitors, the canopy integrates both the school’s main gate and also a community-oriented café and entrances to commercial tenants, creating a single, expansive gateway that welcomes everyone who interacts with the campus equally.
The wood-tone louvers forming the canopy are all of a uniform specification and arranged so that not a single piece requires notching. Although the material is homogeneous, the radial layout allows the canopy to reveal a variety of expressions depending on the viewing angle.
By arranging the canopy in an arc centered on the plaza, its depth varies from place to place. In front of the main gate, it functions as a light canopy that guides daylight into the interior, while in front of the multipurpose hall, it extends generously to accommodate gatherings and events. Our goal was to craft a symbol that brings together a variety of activities, reflecting the diversity of students’ ages at the school.
