Tsubominouta Nursery School
Inspired by Wakayama Gakuen’s educational philosophy—“to nurture a heart that can perceive beauty as beauty”—this design envisions a soft, folding fan–inspired architectural form that gently nurtures children’s sensibilities.
Curved wooden beams loosely define a fan-shaped space, whose organic, almost living sense of embrace frees the hearts of children.
Wood is used generously throughout both the interior and exterior, shaping an everyday environment where nature can be experienced through all five senses. The interior wood paneling is finished in the school’s theme color, a pale red, creating a warm and gentle space where the texture of the wood and its hues blend harmoniously.
The lighting, too, draws from the motif of a “flower bud,” inspired by the school’s name, with custom pendant shades designed accordingly—offering children a rich sensory experience that extends beyond materials to include the quality of light itself.
