The second branch of Shiawase no Ie, a new type of community center for the region following the Komatsu City location, is themed around:
• 居 (Comfort): a place where everyone can feel at ease
• 食 (Nutrition): wholesome food that cares for the body
• 充 (Fulfillment): nurturing a generous, thoughtful spirit
At the heart of the building, a staircase enclosed by wooden bookshelves softly connects the dining area, Japanese-style rooms, and hall, creating a warm, home-like atmosphere befitting the name “house.”
Outside, a rooftop garden with large vegetable plots is linked by walking paths, fostering intergenerational interaction for children and the elderly alike, while letting visitors experience the bounty of nature. The project explores the potential of a “third space” beyond home or office, emphasizing connection and community.
