We designed a commemorative bench to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Nishinomiya City, presented as a gift from Yusuhara Town in Kochi Prefecture, a sister city of Nishinomiya.

The bench uses 105 mm square cedar timbers from Yusuhara Town, injected with phenolic resin to improve durability, as its legs. The seat and backrest are made from 120 mm square timbers cut diagonally into triangular sections, pursuing an ultimate simplicity and ease of assembly through a minimal structural composition.
At the same time, by extending the width to 3.5 meters—more than twice that of a typical bench—the design creates a “perch-like” place where up to six adults can sit side by side and relax together.

The project aims to foster casual communication through the familiar warmth of the “Perch Bench,” creating connections between the two cities while softening the character of the urban landscape.
