Inspired by the chestnut forest where the site is located, we designed three lightweight pavilions for the OCA Oasy Contemporary Art that wrap around and interact with the trees, much like the wind plays with their leaves. The design is deeply influenced y the
concept of Japanese onomatopoeia, where spatial expression is guided by sound-like impressions that evoke movement and emotion.

The pavilions embody the playful and dynamic sensations evoked by onomatopoeic words. The swirling form of Pavilion No.1 recalls Guruguru (ぐるぐる), a continuous, medium-scale spiral movement. Pavilion No.2 captures the lighter, more expansive rotation of Kurukuru (くるくる), evoking a sense of playful twirling. Pavilion No.3 expresses the subtle, almost whisper-like tension of Kyurukyuru (きゅるきゅる), characterized by a tighter, more refined and elastic vibration. These sound-inspired concepts inform a spatial language that is intuitive and sensorial, blurring the boundaries between architecture and natural phenomena.

Each pavilion features a hybrid structure composed of Corten steel stripes woven into a mesh, reinforced with carbon fiber to minimize thickness and emphasize visual lightness. The 1mm-thick stripes, in varying widths of 25 and 35mm, are randomly arranged to modulate the porosity of each enclosure. The natural oxidation of the Corten allows the structures to blend seamlessly into their woodland surroundings, establishing a quiet yet dynamic harmony with the landscape.
