Shisui Luxury Collection Hotel Nara
Two prestigious Japanese style wooden facilities consisting of the old Nara Governor Official Residence and Yoshikien Garden located in the center of Nara Park at the foot of Mt. Wakakusa have been renovated and opened as a 5-star hotel (Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel).
As a replacement for a conventional hotel consisting of a closed-off concrete box, we strived to design a new type of luxury hotel which has a restrained atmosphere that quietly blends into a meticulously planned and maintained Japanese garden, featuring the expansive greenery of Nara Park, where harmony with the environment and the succession of time are given priority.
For the interior as well, we attempted to connect antiquity with the modern age, making good use of the ancient generosity and softness of Nara culture, while preserving the design elements connected to the silk road such as the “thorn arch”.
