Japan 2011Kyoto Kokusai Hotel [Model Room]

Kyoto
Interior | Hospitality
Completed

The guestrooms at the Kyoto Kokusai Hotel in front of Nijo Castle that was designed by the architect Junzo Yoshimura (1908 – 1997) were renovated. We attempted to realize the allure of the “roof” that a one-story Japanese house has in a mid-to-high-rise building by inserting an inclined ceiling inside a concrete box. We used a glass box to partition the toilet and bathing area, and used a Muso Koshi screen to control the relationship between the two. All of the furniture has a low center of gravity and height in order to create a feeling of openness to the maximum extent possible.
