Busan Lotte Tower
In the city where waves reach the land, a new landmark tower rises on the former Busan City Hall site. Inspired by the waves drawn by ships crossing the adjacent Busan Port, the design translates the rhythm of the sea onto the building’s façade. Curved transparent glass volumes are vertically stacked following the flow of internal functions, while horizontal bands reminiscent of waves wrap the entire façade, blurring the boundary between spandrel and vision glass. These horizontal lines flow like a single wave, as reflected light on the glass gently weaves the tower and the sea of Busan into one continuous landscape. As the bands ascend, they gradually lighten and transform into delicate louvers at the rooftop, forming an observatory that seems to float in the air. The sea, the city, and the sky of Busan converge upon the façade of this tower.

물결이 닿는 도시, 부산의 옛 시청 부지에 새로운 랜드마크 타워를 세웠다. 대지와 맞닿은 부산항을 오가는 선박의 뱃머리가 그리는 파도를 모티프로 삼아, 바다의 흐름을 건축의 입면 위에 그려냈다. 곡면의 투명한 글래스 볼륨을 내부의 기능 흐름에 따라 수직으로 쌓아 올리고, 수평의 물결 같은 띠로 입면 전체를 감싸 스팬드럴과 비전 글래스의 경계를 지웠다. 수평의 띠들이 파도처럼 흐르며, 글래스에 반사된 빛이 타워의 입면과 부산의 바다를 유려하게 연결한다. 띠는 상부로 갈수록 점차 가벼워지고, 루프탑에 이르면 섬세한 루버로 변주되어 공중에 떠 있는 듯한 전망대를 완성한다. 부산의 바다와 도시, 그리고 하늘이 이 타워의 입면에서 하나로 이어진다.
