A train station and civic center facing Mount Fuji in Oyama, Shizuoka, along the Gotemba train line. To create a new public space for the local community, we created a grand staircase that functions as a multipurpose space. The stair can act as a waiting space for the train, information center for the community, an exhibition space for local artists, and a municipal office. The interior wood finish interior creates a warm atmosphere for community interaction.
The roof soars upwards in an attempt to greet Mount Fuji. The deep eaves supported by parabolically interlocking wooden lumber pieces, resonate with the parabolic silhouette of Mount Fuji. For the structural elements, we used “Fujiyama Kintokizai,” an Oyama local wood pine supplier; a material symbolic of regional economic revitalization.

駅舎・交流センター

静岡県小山町の御殿場線足柄駅に併設された木の地域交流センター。駅は、単なる交通施設ではなく、コミュニティの拠点であるべきだと考え、富士山を正面に望む大階段状の多目的空間を創造した。木で作られたこの空間は、駅の待合空間、地域の情報センター、地域アーティストの展示空間、小山町支所等の役割を果たし、地域の人の交流の空間となっている。
屋根は富士山の方角に向かって伸び上がり、深い軒は、放物線のジオメトリーに従って、嵌合する製材で支えられ、富士山のシルエットの曲線と、屋根の構造体とが響き合う構成となっている。構造には富士山金時材の愛称で知られる小山町産の杉材が用いられ、地域産業活性化のシンボルとしても期待されている。
