VILLA Fuji Kawaguchiko AERO
I designed a villa on the shores of Lake Kawaguchiko for my longtime friend, Kazuhiro Fujihara. Across the water rises Mount Fuji. I defined the axis directed toward this greatest of Japanese monuments as the Mount Fuji Axis, an invisible force that transforms both the architecture and the interior space. Through this process, a “place” emerged that weaves together human presence, the lake, and Mount Fuji as one.
The resulting form appears as if a boat were floating on Lake Kawaguchiko. This boat serves both as a vessel for savoring Mount Fuji from the lake, and as a boat of devotion, setting out toward the sacred peak.
