The Village ‘MA House’ for Salvatori
A collaboration between Salvatori and KKAA, MA House is the smallest and most abstract project the two have worked on together.
Our design for the MA House aimed to avoid simply conceiving a “house shape” of a certain interest or attractiveness that could be done with stone or anything else. It was more appealing to us to think about how to do this with stone; carving was the natural process we ended up with. The shape was the least important, so we just took simple, childlike silhouettes that universally recall the image of a house.
Working with natural stone always comes with a sense of gratitude. Unlike modern artificial materials, which begin to decay from the moment they are installed, stone increases in beauty over time, perhaps because it is a material shaped by nature itself.
