Cave of Light and Shadow
This is a design plan for an object to be erected on the west approach to the Suzhou Museum.
We designed an art object resembling Shi-Shan as the entrance gate to the museum, which stands against the backdrop of Shi-Shan, a mountain that has long been a symbol of this area.
Numerous perforated cast aluminum panels, reminiscent of Suzhou’s Taihu Stone, were fitted with horizontal and vertical rotation to create a 5.6m high x 9m wide x 18m deep walk-through space.
The technique of using aluminum cast porous panels was used first in “Wuxi Vanke“. This time as an evolution to this approach, we tried to eliminate secondary components and create a space by fitting them together.
