Tsukiji KY Building
The building is located further down from Kabuki Theatre in Ginza, Tokyo. We renovated an old compound building that stands across the old part of Tsukiji Fish Market into a lively, warm and humane space that could match the atmosphere of Tsukiji.
We totally renewed its monotonous façade with horizontally continued window with aluminum panels on which woody texture is directly printed. By doing so, the building restored a human-friendly scale and atmosphere that old wooden houses in downtown used to produce.
In the evening, warm light inside the building filters through the panels just like paper lanterns set for the town at night.
