Kitakami Canal Museum

3-66-69 Mizuoshi, Ishinomaki-shi, Miyagi, Japan
1999.06
Museum, canal purification facility
613.07m2

A museum buried in the embankment of Kitakami River.
Not a mere concrete box buried underground, it is a museum in the shape of a tunnel that continues to the riverside promenade, as an attempt to invert the “object”into a “pore”. No models nor panels are found in the exhibition area inside the tunnel-like underground space: the museum features children-friendly interfaces with the help of computer games.
